Export earnings from the information technology (IT) sector in Orissa has touched Rs732 crore during 2006-07, registering a 58% growth compared to last year. State IT companies have exported software worth Rs465 crore during 2005-06, state Minister for Energy and IT Suryanarayan Patra said today. Of the 32 small and medium companies operating in the state, 29 firms accounted for Rs51.45 crore, while IT majors like Infosys, Satyam and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) were among the major export earners, he said. Attracted by the state’s IT policy, 14 new companies had registered themselves with the software technology parks of India, Bhubaneswar last year, while 19 companies did so this year, he added. Official sources said buoyant by the success so far, the state government has decided to acquire 681 acres of land 20 km from the city and develop it into a second IT hub Infocity-2.
